News Item - This week’s Nextel Cup race in Texas should separate the contenders from the pretenders.

There are just three weeks left in the “Chase for the Nextel Cup” and its time to find out who is serious about winning a title and who is there to fill out the field.

News Item - Sorenstam to design her first American course.

World No. 1 Annika Sorenstam will redesign the Patriot Points Link Golf Course, her first such endeavor in the United States.

“There have been so many wonderful things that have occurred during my career,” said Sorenstam. “My relationship with Bobby Ginn has opened the doors to something that I have dreamed about. The first was having my own teaching academy in Reunion and the second was hosting my own LPGA tournament, the Ginn Tribute in Charleston. And now I’m fortunate to start my U.S. golf design career with Ginn at Patriots Point Links. This has been a very special year in my life.”

Mark Recchi signed a deal on Monday to return to the Penguins, according to ESPNews. He had seven goals and nine assists in 25 games with the Hurricanes last season.

Tomas Vokoun has been cleared to return to action after tests Monday revealed that blood clots in his abdomen were the result of an old injury, according to the Nashville Tennessean. Vokoun didn’t play after April 1 because of the blood clots, which were ultimately diagnosed as the result of pelvic thrombophlebitis.
